When to speak with a neurologist
Persistent memory changes, slower movement, tremor or recurring difficulty walking may warrant assessment. A tremor alone does not establish Parkinson’s disease, and forgetfulness does not automatically mean dementia. Symptoms need to be considered in their wider context.
Assessment and follow-up
A discussion, neurological examination and medication review are starting points. Further tests or referral may be arranged when needed. Bringing a relative and a record of specific changes can help. Regular reviews allow the plan to be adjusted as needs change.
Care in everyday life
Depending on the diagnosis, care may include medication for symptoms, rehabilitation, and support with communication, movement or daily routines. Support for carers matters too. The aim is to maintain function and quality of life where possible, alongside a realistic discussion of treatment limitations.
