Stroke and follow-up care

A stroke is a medical emergency caused by a disturbance of blood flow in the brain. Sudden symptoms require emergency hospital assessment. After acute treatment, outpatient neurological care has a different role: reviewing ongoing effects, managing risk factors and planning support.

Sudden symptoms — call 112 / 194 now

SUSPECTED STROKE: call 112 or 194 immediately in Croatia. Do not drive yourself or wait for a booking-form response. Note when symptoms began and follow the dispatcher’s instructions, even if symptoms resolve.

Recognise the signs and act

Sudden facial drooping, arm weakness or speech difficulty are warning signs. Sudden vision or balance problems may also occur. Call 112 or 194 immediately in Croatia, even if the symptoms resolve. Do not wait for a clinic appointment.

02

Follow-up after hospital treatment

Bring your discharge summary, test reports and medication list. The review considers remaining difficulties, blood pressure and other risk factors. Further investigation and treatment are tailored to the type of stroke, previous findings and comorbidities.

03

Support for everyday life

Rehabilitation goals may focus on walking, using an arm, speech, memory or independence. Different professionals may be involved according to need, and family support is important. Recovery varies between individuals. Follow-up aims to monitor changing needs and adjust the plan, without promising a particular outcome.
