What the name describes
A blood sample is centrifuged to separate a plasma preparation containing platelets. It is administered at the site selected by the physician; the protocol depends on the findings and preparation system.
What the evidence says
PRP is studied and used for selected musculoskeletal conditions, particularly symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Recommendations and results differ. Possible symptom relief does not establish cartilage regrowth.
Assessment and safety
Assessment considers the diagnosis, disease severity, other conditions and medicines. Post-injection pain, bleeding and infection are possible. Do not change your medicines yourself.
